When someone searches for “dentist near me” or “hardware shop in Jalandhar”, Google shows a map with three businesses above everything else. These three spots get the majority of calls and direction requests. Google decides who appears there based on three things: relevance, distance and prominence.
1. Complete your Google Business Profile properly
Relevance comes mostly from your profile. Choose the most specific primary category (for example “Orthodontist” rather than “Dentist” if that's what you do), add secondary categories, list every service, and write a description that says clearly what you do and where.
2. Keep your name, address and phone number identical everywhere
Your business name, address and phone number should match exactly on your website, Google profile, Justdial, IndiaMART, Facebook and any other listing. Differences like “Rd” and “Road”, or an old phone number on one site, weaken Google's confidence in your location.
3. Ask every happy customer for a review
Prominence is largely about reviews: how many, how recent and how good. Make it easy by sharing your review link on WhatsApp after each sale or visit, and reply to every review, positive or negative. Never buy reviews; Google removes them and can suspend profiles.
4. Post and add photos regularly
Profiles that are updated weekly with offers, updates and real photos of your premises and work tend to perform better than profiles left untouched. It also shows customers that you're active.
5. Make sure your website supports your profile
Your website should mention your city and area, show the same address and phone number, and have a page for each main service. Link your website from your profile.
Distance is the one factor you can't change, but businesses that get the other four right regularly outrank closer competitors. If you'd like us to review your profile, get in touch.
